& Patrick Elkins
Melting Moments is hard at work, playing some Ann Arbor shows and working on new songs for an EP release on We're Twins. Melting Moments was started by Anna Vitale in 2001. She plays casio keyboard and sings and the band also includes Jason Adam Voss on guitar. Anna is currently enrolled in the low-residency graduate program at Bard College and will be spending the summer there. Hopefully, Melting Moments will play a pair of shows in New York state in June and then re-form in Ann Arbor in Fall 2005, but the surest way to see them live is to come to one of these shows:
Jason Voss and Patrick Elkins are each working on new material for release. Pat's album is tentatively titled "The Bible or Africa?" and will be released on Ypsilanti Records as part of their limited edition Tuesday series. Jason is working on a batch of songs for an EP on We're Twins tentatively titled "Vision" and some other compilation tracks. The pair will also be releasing a 3-inch called "Chew Your Own State 2: Minnesota" on Chew Your Own Records. This release will be available only to residents of Minnesota.
Although the Most Dangerous Game of Cat and Mouse Band is on hiatus due to Katie living in Japan, the other two members are keeping busy. Kelly S. and Ben performed a Dolly Parton cover at the American Crossword Competition and Ben sang another crossword-themed song for which he won second prize in the performance competition. The pair are also working on some Gil Scott-Heron covers.
Patrick Elkins and Jason Voss will be performing live on a radio show on Providence's BSR called "Phoning It In." The show is on Wednesday April 6 from 9:30-10 PM and they will be phoning in from somewhere in Ann Arbor. Check out BSR.
Kelly Caldwell is on the cover of this month's issue of the Ann Arbor Paper! The article talks a little bit about her band Savacald, whose CD '89 we have for sale on the Catalog page. Previously, we had sent these out with different packaging each time, but now there is a new package featuring some poetry that Kelly wrote around same time (at the age of 10) about her favorite rock group Poison. Kelly has a great new album called "Banner of a Hundred Hearts" out very soon on Ypsilanti Records (who are releasing a lot of awesome things recently). An EP of songs recorded by Kelly solo will be released by We're Twins in May and she'll be touring this summer! You can also get the album "In the Woods" by And Spiders (for which Kel-Cald was the lead singer) here from us! Her first solo album "Septembre Girl" on Ypsilanti Records is really awesome too. We just can't get enough of Kelly Jean Caldwell.
Patrick Elkins has a lot of shows coming up! This weekend, he is playing two shows in Southeat Michigan. First is on Friday Mar 18 Barton/Grey, Patrick vs. Elkins + Black Sky @ Dreamland Theater (44 E. Cross Street in Ypsilanti) 8:30 pm $5. Patrick will be playing the part of PATRICK, and the other four members of Hot Meat for Young Lovers will be collectively playing ELKINS in a showdown to determine just how weird the performance should be. On Saturday, March 19 is Reclaim Your Health: A D.I.Y. Health Fair @ The Trumbullplex (4210 Trumbull in Detroit) the health fair runs March 18-20 -- on Saturday night there will be a musical benefit @ Idle Kids Bookstore for the event featuring Patrick Elkins, Cocoa Cheznet, and others. contact reclaimyourhealth@riseup.net or visit geocities.com/reclaimyourhealthdetroit for more info.
Patrick Elkins and The New Sound of My Bossa Nova are going on an East Coast tour in April, playing shows in Southern California, Moscow, Idaho and other places! The full schedule will be up soon. On Saturday, April 23 (fresh on his way back from the west coast) Patrick is playing with Jason Voss at the Free Democracy Summit in Duluth, MN and some other dates in the midwest. Check back for all the details.
Melting Moments are playing some Ann Arbor shows soon. On Thursday April 19, they will be playing at the last installment of Totally Awesome Supper Club along with Patrick Elkins (by phone) and Dustin Krcatovich. They are currently working on new material and hope to have an EP on We're Twins in the early summer. They will also be playing at Totally Awesome Fest, which is happening from April 28-30. This will be a big festival to mark the end of Totally Awesome House.
We are putting out a free compilation CD (our third one) this summer. If you want to include something on it, send an email to info@weretwins.com The deadline for submissions is June 1. So far, it will feature The Most Dangerous Game of Cat and Mouse Band, The New Sound of My Bossa Nova, Melting Moments, Patrick Elkins, Jason Voss, Justin Shay, Ever Will You Get There, The Tornado Family, Elizabeth and some others too. It will be really good and really free. If anyone has ordered a free sampler and never received it, please ask again.
Patrick Elkins has a new song called "Calling Paraguay" on a cassette compilation on Unneccesary Friction Records called "re-membering, vol. 1." It is a limited edition of 100 copies, and here is the full tracklist:
In other compilation news, Casanova Temptations has released a new compilation called "The Garage is Too Cold, Let's Go into the Living Room and Warm Up" CTECCD0007 CDR $5 ppd. It features 13 cool Michigan bands doing songs about being inside. From the We're Twins camp come Cap'n Jus, Jib Kidder, Patrick Elkins and Kelly Caldwell, but all the tracks are super good.
That is a lot of news and there is more missing. There is newly written up history of We're Twins Records here under the ABOUT link and the website will be gradually and continually under improvement for a while. How often are CD-R labels supposed to update their web sites? The next release we have planned is the HOBO A GO GO LIVE CD, which should be ready to go in early April. The New Sound of My Bossa Nova's first CD brings the jams. That's our number one pick if you want to choose something. Some older releases have gone out of print from our catalog and some will be temporarily out of print, so that we can concentrate our limited resources on specific projects.
"The New Folk Sounds of Patrick Elkins" and "Hobo A Go Go: The Official Tour CD" are reviewed in the Feb 2005 issue of the Wire (with Anthony Braxton on the cover)!!! Hobos Patrick Elkins, Jason Voss and Justin Shay are hard at work culling the very best of the Hobo A Go Go tour from July 2004. The live CD should be out in March.
The new Saturday Looks Good to Me seven inch has arrived!!! The band is over in Europe, and so they haven't even seen the final product all together yet, but you can order it direct from us now right here. It'll be available in stores in March.
Jason Voss is embarking on a tour with contrabass visionary/songbird Nat Baldwin from New Hampshire. They are playing in Chicago, North Manchester, Bowling Green, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Bethlehem, Philadelphia, Cambridge, Middletown, Providence, Annondale-on-Hudson, New Haven and Brookyln. Go to their respective Myspaces: Nat Baldwin & Jason Voss!
We will be celebrating Halloween with the We're Twins Halloween EP for 2004 this April. Halloween seems even more exciting on the other end of the year!!! The EP has six new spooky songs by The New Sound of My Bossa Nova, Eliza Beatrix Godfrey, Melting Moments, Brown Buick, Das Smarties & Patrick Elkins. We're also trying to figure out what to do in remembrance of the Halloween show at Totally Awesome House where every band covered another local band!
Patrick Elkins & The New Sound of My Bossa Nova will be touring the west coast of the United States in April. Stay tuned for more. You need to hear "A Free Example of We're Twins Musics 2003", still available for FREE.
